Many terrestrial as well as marine living organisms are capable to emit light - some centipedes, millipedes, earthworms, snails, fishes, jelly fishes, corals, octopuses, sea slugs, fungi, algae, etc. Fireflies account for only a small part of the world of bioluminescence. However, the habitats of fireflies overlay well with human's, and many fireflies can fly, making them especially spectacular. In Hong Kong, apart from fireflies, other common bioluminescence examples include glowing mushrooms, glowing mycelium and Sea Sparkle (Dinoflagellate).
