Male body length 10mm, elytra slender, compound eyes very large, with a prominent indentation. Light organ absent in adult male. Female body length 9-13 mm, wingless, larviform, no conspicuous colour mark. At night, posterior end of abdomen curls up to show its very large light organ, emitting continuous light.
